High-intensity input to build a solid foundation for environmental protection
Shenghong Petrochemical went north to Lianyungang for planning and construction of an ecological, safe and innovative petrochemical industry base in 2010 in order to further build a sustainable green industrial chain and implement the national strategic requirements for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the petrochemical industry. It has completed the 2.4 MTPA alcohol based poly generation project of Sailboat Petrochemical and the 3.9 MTPA PTA project of Honggang Petrochemical and provided complete supporting projects such as storage terminals and combined heat and power generation. As a key support project in the Petrochemical Industry Planning and Layout Scheme of the State Council, the 16 MTPA refining and chemical integration project of Shenghong Petrochemical is advancing rapidly and will be completed and put into operation within this year. The Group has become the leading enterprise in Lianyungang Base among the seven world-class petrochemical industry bases in China.
he investment in environmental protection in various projects completed by Shenghong Petrochemical has reached RMB 2.7 billion, accounting for 9% of the total project investment. The 16 MTPA refining and chemical integration project under construction has a total investment of RMB67.7 billion, including an investment in environmental protection of RMB 4.3 billion which accounts for nearly 6% of the total project investment. Both the amount and proportion of investment in environmental protection are at the leading level in the industry. This also ensures the advanced nature of environmental protection technology and equipment in the project. All energy consumption and emission indicators are far superior to national standards, laying a solid foundation for the green and environmentally friendly operation of the company.
High-standard operation to build a green system
Shenghong Petrochemical always strictly implements the latest national environmental protection standards, and strengthens green production in the whole process and promotes energy saving and environmentally friendly integrated clean production in accordance with the special emission limit requirements of the Yangtze River Delta region. A number of energy saving, water saving and emission reduction renovation projects have been implemented, realizing reduction from the source, process control and recycling and achieving the goal of energy conservation, pollution reduction and efficiency increase.
The "Technical Reform Project for Comprehensive Utilization of Waste Acid Resources" of Sailboat Petrochemical has realized the comprehensive utilization of products and by products of three integrated units and their environmental protection and zero emission; reduced costs and increased efficiency through steam reuse by the waste heat recovery unit; realized the recycling of waste water, waste gas and solid waste and reduced emissions under the upstream downstream integrated production mode of integrated units based on 14 international advanced technologies, creating a closed loop green industrial chain. 22 KTPA standard coal has been saved after implementation of various measures.
Continuing efforts are made to optimize and further tap the potential of the units which have reached the advanced level of the industry. The biogas recycling project recently put into use by Honggang Petrochemical recycles the biogas from the sewage pretreatment station in the plant through a 30 t/h biogas boiler, not only reducing waste gas emissions, but also realizing energy recycling and cleaning, optimizing the energy structure and improving the comprehensive utilization rate of energy. After operation at full load, the project can reduce the outsourced steam of the company by 240 KTPA, annual comprehensive energy consumption by 24,000 tons of standard coal, and CO2 emissions by 70 KTPA. The phase I PTA unit is undergoing transformation for energy conservation, which will also greatly reduce the consumption of desalinated water and steam in the unit and reduce its annual comprehensive energy consumption by 17,000 tons of standard coal and CO2 emissions by 30 KTPA.
High-level planning to win the future with low carbon
With unremitting pursuit and efforts for green and sustainable development, Shenghong Petrochemical has established a complete system for the sustainable development pattern of "turning waste into treasure and recycling" in the layout of the entire industrial chain from "a thread" of downstream polyester fiber to "a drop of oil" in upstream oil refining. The efforts of the company in environmental protection have been unanimously affirmed by all sectors of society. In 2018, Honggang Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Shenghong Petrochemical, was successfully selected into the list of the third batch of national "green factories" and the list of "green factories" in China's petrochemical industry. As a representative of key enterprises, the Group participated in the preparation of the PTA Green Factory Evaluation Guidelines which incorporated the "Shenghong Mode" of green development according to the deployment of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.
The green development layout of Shenghong Petrochemical is being further extended. At present, the company has embarked on an overall plan for carbon emission peaking and carbon neutrality and initiated CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) project research to explore cutting-edge technologies for carbon emission reduction and a long-term technological path to achieve zero-carbon production.
In addition, the Group has planned to supply thermal energy for projects with the clean energy provided by Lianyungang Tianwan Nuclear Power Station in place of traditional coal fired thermal power plants in active response to the national green and low carbon energy development strategy. The nuclear heating project has the unique advantages of zero carbon emission and environmental protection. Coal consumption and total pollutant emissions will be greatly reduced. It is also expected to be the first in the industry to achieve "zero carbon heating" and establish a new path for the green and sustainable development of China's petrochemical industry.
Zhuang Xiangning, Deputy Director of the Quality, Safety and Environmental Protection Department of CPCIF, commented that the green development pattern of Shenghong Petrochemical reflected its high awareness and sense of responsibility for eco-environmental protection and low-carbon development and also represented the development direction of green transformation of China’s petrochemical industry.
The Group will continue to develop green manufacturing vigorously, improve resource utilization, build a safe and green production system and study carbon neutralization technology, wastewater recycling, gradient energy utilization and VOCs emission reduction as new topics to fully realize the recycling, harmlessness and reduction of waste and make "green, low carbon and recycling" a shining business card and core competitiveness of Shenghong on the path of future development.
